Independents

I never had any luck picking winners, so in honor of  Leonard Postero we pick the Losers. Enjoy!

Week 13

Notre Dame at Stanford

The writing appears to be on the wall for Head Coach Charlie Weis. Too many close losses, others say if Notre Dame wants to compete nationally the university is going to have to relax some of their admission standards. It is ironic that they are playing a University with similar standards that has experienced more success on the field. There is only a one game difference in their records but compare Stanford’s quality wins versus Notre Dame’s and it is not close. Stanford wins the SAT bowl.

Week 11

Notre Dame at Pittsburgh

The Fighting Irish hosts the Pitt Panthers this week. Notre Dame is coming off a tough home loss to Navy. That loss pretty much shattered any chance of a BCS bowl for the Irish. They have had a manageable schedule this year but will be challenged this week by Pitt. Pitt has been playing very consistent this year and has only one loss this year. If Pitt can contain Clausen they should win; luckily the Panthers will have home field advantage and I think this maybe the difference.

Week 10

Navy at Notre Dame

The Midshipman head to South Bend knowing that the Irish are going to try to sink their battleship. These teams played great games when Truman was prez; now not so much. How would you like to be a quarterback in this game, you drop back and everyone on the field has a gold helmet. Navy threw a scare into Ohio State earlier in the year however; I think the Irish will take care of business on Saturday. You sunk my battleship!

Week 8

The patriotic peacocks fly into South Bend on Saturday to play the Irish in a game of who has the best looking helmets. The boys from Boston have not been to kind to their fellow golden domers in recent years and have been playing much better as the year has progressed. Notre Dame has two heart breaking losses this year; one at Michigan and last weeks tough loss to USC. If Notre Dame is feeling sorry for themselves; Boston College will make it worse. I think Notre Dame will bounce back this week and beat the Eagles for the first time in the 8 years.

Week 7

Southern Cal at Notre Dame

After a week of R&R; the Soldiers from SoCal head to South Bend to play the Fighting Irish. The Trojans have dominated the series in recent years and Coach Weis will need to use everyone one of his 1600 SAT point to create a winning formula. The resident genius relies on his quarterback Clausen to keep the Irish marching and they have covered a lot of ground this year. The Trojans offense has not been as explosive as in years past but their defense has not slipped a bit. Clausen is good enough to make this interesting but I think the Trojans will still rain on their parade.

Einstein told us that E=MC squared, but every bumpkin knows Coach Carroll + Trojan Players = W.

Week 5

Washington at Notre Dame

Washington’s stay in the top 25 was short lived as they fell to Stanford last week. The Irish had a great comeback win against Purdue similar to what they suffered through against Michigan. This game will feature 2 of the best quarterbacks in the country. Jimmy Clausen and Jake Locker are proven leaders that get a lot accomplished with limited surrounding talent. Especially Locker. I think that this will be a close game but the Irish will find a way to limit Locker’s effectiveness.

Week 4

Notre Dame at Purdue

The luck of the Irish was on full display last Saturday as the Spartans delivered a present to Coach Weis in the form of a turnover on the last drive of the game. The Irish hit the road to visit the Boilermakers who seem to play to the level of their opponent no matter how good or bad their opponent is. I think the Irish will find their winning way again, but it will be tough.

Week 3

Michigan State at Notre Dame

The Spartans and the Irish were a bit bummed out over the weekend and both look to rebound this week. Both teams desperately need a win to keep their desire to be busy on New Year’s Day alive. Mr. Clausen looked sharp, even in defeat, and my guess is he will lead the Irish to victory.

Ball State at Army

Navy at Pitt

Week 2

Notre Dame at Michigan

Jimmy Clausen leads the leprechauns to the big house this Saturday; the Wolverines by all accounts should be very well prepared this year. At least all of that extra practice yielded some decent play in Ann Arbor last week.

Clausen was great for Notre Dame against Nevada completing 15 of 18 for over 300 yards and 4 TD’s. He will need to have a similar effort against a better defense on the road. The winner will get rid of some demons and since Coach Weis has 10 priests on speed dial; he may have the upper hand.
