Leonards Losers Tribute 2017 Week 13 College Football Picks
November 22, 2017 – Week 13
Rivalry week is here; so after all of the turkey eaten and all of the Black Friday shopping is finished its time to watch the biggest rivalry games of the year. Auburn v Alabama, Michigan v Ohio State, Washington v Washington St and many more games will have major consequences in shaping the final four as well. Below are the picks and I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!
Texas A&M at LSU
The Aggies head to Baton Rouge to take on in a SEC West battle. The Aggies are 7-4 and the Tigers are 8-3 on the year and are evenly matched. A&M is still looking for a signature win this season; they have beat the teams they are supposed to beat but have had a couple of close losses that have haunted them. LSU had a nice win against Auburn and are looking to build on recent success. This will be a tough game for both teams, but I think the Tigers will defend their home field and get the job done.
Zanes Zero – Texas A&M
Wisconsin at Minnesota
The Badgers head to the land of 10,000 lakes in a quest to return home with Paul Bunyan’s Axe. The Badgers have kept the Axe clean and sharp for several years and plan on having it another 365 days. Not so fast my friend; the Gophers are 5-6 and are way behind on their logging and are desperate to get it back. This game is not for the faint of heart or people that prefer gas logs. I think the Gophers will leave Madison empty handed; but it will be close.
Zanes Zero – Minnesota
Oregon St. at Oregon
The Civil War is fired up once again as the Beavers leave the dam in Corvallis to take on the Ducks in Eugene. Oregon is 6-5 on the year and had a nice win against Arizona last week. The Beavers have had a tough year; the Beavers are 1-10. Yikes. In rivalry games sometimes, you had better expect the unexpected. I think the Ducks beat their instate rival in this one without too much resistance.
Zanes Zero – Oregon St.
Washington St. at Washington
The Cougars and the Huskies get together in a good old fashion cat and dog fight. The Apple Cup will be a decent game this year. The Cougars and the Huskies both have their programs on the rise and have 9-2 records. Washington has dominated the series recently winning 7 out of the last 8 games. I think this will be a close game and I can make a case for either team but I think the Huskies will come out on top.
Zanes Zero – Washington St.
Ohio St. at Michigan
The Buckeyes travel to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan. Michigan is in a rebuilding year and has had a nice season at 8-3. Ohio State is on the fringe of the playoff conversation suffering losses to Oklahoma and Iowa. Rivalry games can create unexpected results; both teams have exceptional athletes and this could be a close game; but I think the Buckeyes close this game out early.
Zanes Zero – Michigan
Georgia at Georgia Tech
The Dawgs head to Atlanta to take on the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech. The Dawgs are 10-1 and are headed back to the SEC Championship game. Georgia Tech is 5-5 but have played better than their record, losing to Miami by one and playing Clemson close. Tech will score points and seems to always be able to move the ball against the Dawgs. It will come down to Tech’s defense being able to stop Georgia’s offense, specifically their running game. If Georgia gets caught up in worrying about the SEC Championship game, Tech will rain on their parade. I think the Georgia defense will continue to play tough and the Dawgs will win the 2017 edition of Clean, Old fashion hate.
Zanes Zero – Tech
Ole Miss at Miss. St.
Ole Miss will get together with their in state rival Mississippi State this weekend. Ole Miss has had a rough season and need to beat their rival to get to 500. Mississippi State has had a solid season and gave number one Alabama a tough game a couple of weeks ago. The Egg Bowl is always intense and I think that Ole Miss could pull the upset over the Bulldogs – but in the end, I think the Bulldogs will find a way to win.
Zanes Zero – Ole Miss
Virginia Tech at Virginia
The Hokies head to Charlottesville to take on the Cavs of Virginia. Both teams have had good season but can get a little satisfaction by defeating their instate rival. Virginia is 6-5 but have lost 4 of their last 5; Virginia played Miami well last week while Tech beat Pitt to get to 8-3. The Hokies had better get their offense back in gear if they expect to win this one – and I think they will do so.
Zanes Zero – Virginia
Alabama at Auburn
When you start listing the people that have been involved in this rivalry it is like a who’s who of college football. Historical names like Namath, Stabler, Bart Starr and Bear rolled with the tide; Auburn has cranked out NFL running backs the way Henry Ford made Model T’s. Alabama is 7 and 2 against Auburn in their last 9 meetings. This year’s game is shaping up to be a classic. Both teams have a chance at the National Championship and the loser maybe outside looking in; this will be a coin flip game and I think Alabama’s offense is the difference.
Zanes Zero – Auburn
Arizona at Arizona St.
The Wildcats take on the Sun Devils in a rivalry PAC12 game. Both teams have had good seasons; State’s resume includes wins over Washington, Colorado and Oregon while Arizona beat Washington State, UCLA and Colorado. This will be a tough and close game, but I think it will be tough for the Wildcats to find a way to win on the road.
Zanes Zero – Arizona
Florida St. at Florida
If misery loves company this should be a sellout. Now these Seminole and Gator fans, out of pity, will buy each other drinks, spring for group therapy and grab a blanket and assume the fetal position in a corner somewhere. Both teams are 4-6 on the year and the Gators have fired their coach. Ouch! Florida State seems to be playing better but who knows……
Zanes Zero – Florida
Clemson at South Carolina
What a great week for in state hate rivalries. These teams and fans just do not like each other. Clemson is heading for the ACC Championship game and can get to the college football playoff if they beat South Carolina and Miami. South Carolina’s season has been solid and have played sound football all year. The Tiger defense is what Clemson relies on and they are as good as anyone in the country is. Clemson is 10-1 while Carolina is 8-3; the Gamecocks have lost the last 3 to Clemson and lost last year’s game by 49. I think that Clemson has a strong enough defense to slow the Gamecocks but the question is do the Gamecocks can do the same when the Tigers have the ball.
