Leonards Losers Tribute 2017 Week 11 College Football Picks
November 8, 2017 – Week 11
The College playoff picture is starting to take shape but a lot can change on a weekly basis. Ask Ohio State after losing to Iowa by 31 or Penn State after dropping their second game in a row or ask Miami and Wisconsin as they just continue to win. The big games this week are Miami – Notre Dame, Oklahoma – TCU, Georgia – Auburn, and Michigan State – Ohio State. It will be interesting to see what happens this week and my humble picks are below. Enjoy!
Alabama at Miss. St.
The Crimson Tide hits the road to take on Mississippi State in a SEC West matchup. The Tide is coming off an impressive win against LSU and is again marching towards another National Championship. Mississippi State will test the Tides focus coming off an emotional win. Coach Saban is the master of keeping his teams focused on the task at hand and Alabama will take another step toward a familiar goal.
Zanes Zero – Mississippi State
Arkansas at LSU
The Razorbacks head to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers in a SEC West contest. Arkansas barely got by Coastal Carolina last week and Death Valley is not the most likely place to “get better”. LSU lost last week at Alabama and is looking to bet back into the win column; the loss pretty much placed a big dent in LSU’s shot at the West but they still have a lot to play for. LSU is just the better team; so I expect the Tigers to win.
Zanes Zero – Arkansas
Florida at South Carolina
The Gators head up to the Palmetto State to take on the Gamecocks of South Carolina. Florida is in the midst of a terrible year and are counting down the days to basketball season. They followed up their loss to Georgia with a blowout road loss to Missouri. Yikes. South Carolina is in the middle of a nice season and played well against Georgia last week. The home team is not likely to provide much sympathy on the field to the Gators Saturday and I think the Gators forgettable season continues this week.
Zanes Zero – Florida
Georgia at Auburn
The Dawgs and the Tigers/War Eagles renew their rivalry in Auburn this Saturday. Coming into the season; both teams had high aspirations, both teams are ranked in the Top 10 and this game has SEC and national playoff implications. Auburn is playing better each week and had a nice weekend last week at Texas A&M. The Tigers need a win to still have a chance at getting into the SEC Championship game and would love to give the Bulldogs their first loss. I think the Bulldogs will find enough offense to lead the Bulldogs to a win on the road.
Zanes Zero – Auburn
Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech
The Hokies march to Atlanta to meet the Ramblin Wreck this week. Georgia Tech’s running game is really clicking and will need to be at full strength Saturday. Offensively, the Hokies hope to march through the Yellow Jacket defense with less resistance than that damned Yankee Sherman. Bud Foster will need to bring his A game to slow down the triple option otherwise; it could be a long game.
Zanes Zero – Georgia Tech
TCU at Oklahoma
The Horned Frogs leave the pond to take on the Sooners of Oklahoma. The Sooners are 8-1 and defeated rival Oklahoma State in a track meet last week. TCU is 8-1 and seems to be the only team in the conference inclined to play defense. In their last 4 conference games, they have given up a total of 27 points (Oklahoma had more than that at halftime last week). TCU is good enough to go into Norman, win this game, and take charge of the conference. I think this week is a tough week to accomplish that goal.
Zanes Zero – TCU
Washington at Stanford
The Huskies head south to take on Stanford in a PAC 12 showdown. The Cardinal five game winning streak came to a halt last week in Pullman as Washington State handed Stanford their 3rd loss on the season. Washington has dominated the conference outside of their lone loss against Arizona State. If the Huskies run the table; they have a great shot to make the playoff – but a loss this Saturday would derail those post-season plans. I think the home team will come out and put up a fight but fall just short of a win.
Zanes Zero – Stanford
Notre Dame at Miami (Fla.)
The boys from South Bend head to South Beach to take on the undefeated Miami Hurricanes this week. Notre Dame continues to steam roll their competition with a prolific rushing attack and are currently ranked 3rd by the College Playoff committee. Miami is undefeated and had an impressive win against Virginia Tech last week. The Canes are poised on making a run for the ACC title and beyond. Notre Dame’s offense has been slowed down only once this season and I think they will continue to roll Saturday.
Zanes Zero – Miami
Rutgers at Penn St.
The Scarlet Knights head to Happy Valley to take on Penn State. Penn State suffered another heartbreaking loss last week to Michigan State. The Nittany Lions will need a lot of external help to get back into the Big Ten and National playoff discussion. Rutgers has not been burdened with those worries at any time this year and will probably be the recipient of a lot of frustrations Saturday.
Zanes Zero – Rutgers
Iowa at Wisconsin
The Hawkeyes head to Madison to take on the only undefeated team left in the Big Ten. Iowa rose up last week and destroyed Ohio State ending any chances of the Buckeyes seeing the College Playoff this season. Wisconsin just continues to beat everyone on their schedule (which is not saying much) and is definitely the favorite this Saturday. I suspect Iowa will come back to earth this week and the Badgers should continue to win.
Zanes Zero – Iowa
Michigan St. at Ohio St.
The Spartans head to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes this week. Ohio State was crushed by Iowa last week (55-24) and have been effectively eliminated from the College Playoffs barring a plague or something. Michigan State won a close game against Penn State last week and is also 7-2 on the season with losses against Notre Dame and Northwestern in OT. I think the Buckeyes will take care of business a week too late.
Zanes Zero – Michigan State
Oklahoma St. at Iowa St.
The Cowboys of Ok state head to Ames to take on the Cyclones of Iowa State. Oklahoma State suffered their second conference loss on the year against bitter rival Oklahoma. Iowa State has been the surprise team of the country this year and have impressive wins against Oklahoma and TCU. The Cyclones had a tough road loss last week against West Virginia. Both teams are hungry to get back into the win column; but I think the Cowboys will on the road in a close one.
Zanes Zero – Iowa State
Florida St. at Clemson
The Seminoles leave the reservation to take on the Clemson Tigers in an ACC tilt. The Tigers have successfully defended their home turf this and cannot wait to rub the rock again. These Tigers are not young kittens and have razor sharp claws and teeth. The Noles have had a rough season and would love to share their misery. The team that keeps their mistakes to the minimum will win this game.
Zanes Zero – Florida State
Arizona St. at UCLA
The Sun Devils head to Hollywood to take on UCLA in a PAC 12 showdown. The Bruins are trying to avoid going 0 for 2 against Arizona teams. It was not a good week for the Sun Devils against the other team from LA two weeks ago as the Trojans wore out State in their own building. Arizona State is a good team but I think the Bruins will pull this one out at home.
