Leonards Losers Tribute 2017 Week 2 College Football Picks
September 6th 2017 – Week 2
Wow what opening week; wild finishes with UCLA roaring back against Texas A&M, Ga Tech losing a heartbreaker against Tennessee, South Carolina holding on against NC State and Liberty beating Baylor. Alabama won the big game against Florida State but both teams paid a high price. FSU lost their quarterback for the year and Alabama lost 2 of their linebackers. The big games this week are headed up by Oklahoma visiting the Buckeyes, Auburn at Clemson and Georgia at Notre Dame with some great in state rivalry games this week (Utah – BYU, Pitt – Penn State and, Iowa – Iowa St). Below are the picks; enjoy!
Oklahoma at Ohio St.
The Sooners head to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State. Indiana gave Ohio State all they could handle for 2 ½ quarters then the Buckeyes remembered how to play football and cruised to an easy win. The Sooners has a layup drill against UTEP winning by 49. Mayfield gives the Sooners a chance against anyone in the country and Oklahoma has what it takes to win; I think the Buckeyes will control the tempo of the game and win a close one.
Zanes Zero – Oklahoma
Pittsburgh at Penn St.
The Steel City Ally Cats find their way to College Station country felines of Penn State. Penn State blew out the Zips of Akron last week while Pitt needed OT at home against Youngstown St. Coach Franklin has done a great job since taking over and having a playmaker like Saquon Barkley makes life a little easier. I think the Panthers will slink back home with their first loss of the season.
Zanes Zero – Pitt
Utah at BYU
This rivalry is known as “The Holy War” and I have it ranked as the 20th best rivalry in college football. BYU was shut out last week against LSU last week while Utah took care of North Dakota. This should be a very competitive game and it would not surprise me to see either team win – however, I have to give the edge to the home team.
Zanes Zero – Utah
Cincinnati at Michigan
The Bearcats head to the Big House to take on the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan wore out the Gators last week in a nice opening win of the season; while Cincinnati squeaked by the accounting firm of Austin Peay. I think the Wolverines will cruise at home in front of the home folks.
Zanes Zero – Cincinnati
Fresno St. at Alabama
Fresno State travels across the country to take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Alabama is coming off a big win against Florida State in a very physical and costly game for both teams. Fresno State beat up on Incarnate Word 66-0 – hmmm I hope they have repented for that beat down; I think penance will be handed out in large doses in Tuscaloosa.
Zanes Zero – Fresno State
Hawaii at UCLA
The Rainbow warriors leave paradise for LA to take on the Bruins of UCLA. The Bruins had a historic comeback against Texas A&M spotting them a 34 point lead before roaring back to win the most exciting game in week one. Hawaii won on the road against UMass by 3 and would love to get to 2-0; I would not expect that UCLA would spot them 30 points like they did last week.
Zanes Zero – Hawaii
Nicholls St. at Texas A&M
Texas A&M is back home after their west coast meltdown against UCLA; Nicholls St is there to collect a big check and a beat down from the Aggies. It has been a rough week Coach Sumlin with fair and unfair criticisms of what happened last week but they will get back on track this week.
Zanes Zero – Nicholls St
UTSA at Baylor
The Baylor Bears hosts UTSA after losing at home against Liberty. Ouch. By the way, last week was a rough week for Texas football; A&M’s meltdown, Texas getting run over by Maryland, Houston’s home game was cancelled because of the terrible flooding in Houston and Baylor lost to Liberty. I think Baylor gets back to 500 with a win.
Zanes Zero – UTSA
Auburn at Clemson
The Tigers of Auburn head to Death Valley to take on the defending National Champion Clemson Tigers. Both teams opened up with nice wins to start the season and this surely will be a test for both teams. Last year Clemson went 3-0 against teams form Alabama – (Auburn, Troy and the Tide) these teams met in their opener and Clemson pulled out a 19-13 road win. Things are improving at Auburn after a couple of tough season but I think Coach Swinney will have the home team ready.
Zanes Zero – Auburn
Georgia at Notre Dame
The Bulldogs leave the Clarke County kennel to take on the Fighting Irish in the house that Rudy built. Last year was a forgettable year for Notre Dame and beating an SEC team would be quite a feather in the cap. Bulldog fans remember fondly the last time these two schools met; Herschel Walker led the Dawgs to the National Championship. Georgia lost their starting QB Jacob Eason in the opener against App State and will turn to Freshman Jake Fromm to lead their offense. I hope that he has perfected handing the ball of to Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.
Zanes Zero – Notre Dame
Iowa at Iowa St.
Iowa State stays in state to take on their rivals the Hawkeyes of Iowa. State won their opener by 18 to Northern Iowa. Iowa is 1-0 after holding the Cowboys of Wyoming to 3 points. In a rivalry game you can pretty much throw out the record books; I think the home field advantage is a factor and if Iowa play conservatively it could go State’s way but in the end, I think Iowa will control the tempo of the game and the outcome.
Zanes Zero – in a close one Iowa State
